3 Principles to Explore As You Move Through A Spiritual Awakening

The internal struggle between who you have been and who you are becoming is known throughout ancient history, myths and folklore by various names.

Some cultures, philosophers, and religions refer to this period of “in-between life stages” as a Coming of Age or Rite of Passage. Others refer to it as a Dark Night of the Soul or Initiation to Awakening. You will even hear this period referred to as the Underworld, Void, Wetiko, Revelations, and even the Apocalypse.

It is a period where you come face-to-face with some of your deepest wounds as an individual and collective. It is here in the shadows that inner light is cast upon the awakening of new layers of truth and revelations of who you are, where you come from, and where you are going.

“Awakening is really a series of softenings. Our awareness becomes more one-pointed, but our hearts and mind become softer and more open. Whenever we’re confronted with harshness, the unexpected, noise, turbulence, the thunder of life, instead of tensing up, we can relax and open, soften and become milder. Mildness is an essential quality needed to allow spiritual initiation.” – Richard Rudd, 64 Ways

The uncertainty and unknown of this period can be extremely uncomfortable and disorienting to anyone accustomed to living according to Western standardized cultural conditions.

It can feel as if the light of your essence is being diminished as you fall into symptoms of deep loneliness, depression, and confusion. Think of this time as a spiritual awakening. Initiation takes place at the core of your soul, preparing you for the rebirth of a more aligned version of your authentic self.

How to Navigate Your Healing Journey

Healing is a lifelong journey filled with moments ranging from extreme heaviness to times where life feels like it is flowing effortlessly. Most of the time life seems to be experienced as varying realms of everything in between.

It is the human journey of existence.

The explorative process of leading yourself back home to your authentic self. The most aligned and benevolent version of self-expression as a co-creator within the cosmos.

Here are 3 principles you can explore as you move through your evolutionary expansion.

  1. Recognize resistance as the key to growth and evolution. The inner tension that is created as you are moving into your next level of higher truth and wisdom can be experienced by a wide range of emotions. For many, massive growth creates a form of resistance or agitation to what is and has already been done. You may find yourself becoming bored or irritated by the people around you. Or, angry at the loneliness you feel when your perception of life shifts and the people around you can not see what you see. It is a classic sign that your soul is requiring your body, central nervous system, and environment to expand. The tension is your soul experiencing restriction within its ability to grow. Once you recognize these signs and symptoms, you can begin to explore safe and healthy ways to expand your evolutional potential and creative expression.
  2. Give your soul room to expand into its authentic power. Explore creative ways to create more space in the energy around you. Treat yourself to a fresh cleaning of your home, workspace, and communities. Search online for fun ideas you can emulate in your environment and community groups who are exploring a more nourishing, intentional method of being in the world. Think of creating space as a luxury you have yet to explore! You’d be surprised how a simple upgrade to the spaces you enter can help you to feel renewed. Surround yourself with other like-minded leaders who permit themselves to evolve. It helps to see and feel how your essence, lifestyle, and overall way of relating to the world can evolve in a way that aligns with the deepest parts of your soul.
  3. Practice presence and gentleness as you birth your newly aligned, authentic self. Allow yourself the time and space to explore the process of unlearning old belief paradigms and learning new ideas without feeling guilt, shame, or betrayal for those who may feel you are leaving them behind. If you are a recovering people-pleaser or have a history of trauma and abuse, it may feel uncomfortable, at first, to try-on new belief patterns. Give yourself the grace of evolution. After all, you are a spiritual being in a human body and you are learning how to access new, bountiful levels of your potentiality for the very first time. Be kind to yourself and rest when your body tells you. Over time, you will witness the beautiful growth of your soul’s evolution and your body’s ever-expanding capacity to hold more light, information, and wisdom.
